View Full Version : Max protein in a sitting?

I was wondering what everyone thinks about the myth of 40 g's max at one sitting. I was thinking about it and most people say to eat 6 meals a day and if my math is correct 40 grams every meal 6 x's a day then that would only mean the max amount of protein is 240 grams. what are some of the experts 2 cents on this. And if this has already been discussed im sorry im a newb to this board:D

It really depends on a person on his physiological needs. Everyone's body is different, but if you are in need of protein your body will take everything that it needs from that meal and the rest will go to energy. So i would imagine one being able to assimilate twice that amount or may be even more depending on the situation and one's eating habits. However, if you consume 6+ meals a day going over 60 grams is not necessary, the excess will just turn into sugar and be used as energy/stored.

However, if you consume 6+ meals a day going over 60 grams is not necessary, the excess will just turn into sugar and be used as energy/stored.on cycle you want to have all the protein you can get especially from real food and not just taking a meal replacemnt or protein isolate. I always heard 1.5-2grams of protein times the users body weight, although this may or maynot be the preferred method by most. 40 is enough for a meal and could even include an additional 40 from protein isolate powder or even 20 as for keeping ones natural metabolism up to norm. I'd go with 20-30 for a shake and then have some food an hour or sooner after intake. That's just me and prefer to get most of my protein intake from spwcific diet plans and proper foods like chicken, turkey, and steaks. Best of Luck and don't get cheap on legs and cardio.

i make 3-4 shakes a day with each one being 70-75g EACH.
i have one when i wake up then a breakfest. then i have the others between or with meals. having one later in the day (atleast half before bed)
i get 70-80% of my protein from shakes! and i GROW JUST FINE "for the smart ass thats gonna say whole food no shakes" I dont eat meat OR fish so i need the help of whey.
i would say you can go farther then 40g per shake.
somtimes the 75g shakes i make, i will have not all in one shot, say half then 30-45min later the other half.

Real foods with calories, which you prob don't get many calories from your little favorite sweet shake I can almost guarantee, and if you get that many calories from shakes the proteins sucks for mixing and taste like cardboard. Be a man and EAT some Red meat son. The only thing you said smartly was protein shake before bed.

I grwo just fine 5 yrs ago was 147 higher bf% im at 208 low bf at only 5'7' id say 55lbs in 5 yrs (3 with aas) thats im doing just find.
go find some rotting street meat to chow on and go work on your farmer tan u stupid redneck!

I just eat a bag of rice cakes and workout to BodyShaping. I have a shake for breakfast, lunch and a sensible dinner. I used to look like a pear, now I look like a smaller pear-am I doing something wrong?

If you went from a big pear to a smaller one, then you are doing something right if you ask me, you want to shape up then you must run, train abs, lower back and legs as well. Perhaps a mutivitamin
And wereing sweat pants and hoodie during all training evolutions to assist you further. As well as a safe incorporation of a carb free energy drink where a mild boost may be included. Eat no sugars, salts, try to avoid can foods, don't eat a bag of rice cakes just have 3-4 a day perhaps with peanut butter to curve your hunger, wholegrain carbs and fruits only preferrably in the AM only, and PM eat strictlly carb conscious red meats, grilled or bake chickens, no fried or fast food, cookies cakes, pies, choclate, ice cream,ect, eat all the fish and brown rice you want and may ocassionally have baked beans. I think I included enough right there to give your body chemistry a bit of a format to follow. Followed faithfully practice will indeed make a more perfect athlete or enthusiast excuse spelling. ur body cannot even get close to metabolizing that amount. maybe if you were receiving it intravenously while sitting on the toilet. all ur doing is storing a boat load of protein and u are just causing ur organs to pass that shit around. with protein less is more... maybe 60g tops and thats only after working out. crucial time and the only time its best to increase it x2.... aside from that 20g-30 g every 2h-3h. is all u really need:mad:

Hey DMAC99, you don't even need 40g per meal, but somewhere around 20-30. The best way to figure out total protein needs is use your lean body mass (total weight - fat), and multiply by 1.2 - 1.3 would be your range. I.e. if you lean body mass is 160 lbs, your protein intake would be a range of 192-208. To stay within the 30 gram per meal max, you should eat at least 7 times/day.
