I have allways done deadlifts and regard them as my favourite back exercise, some people say they dont do them cause the thicken up their waist, if you look at all the great backs, Dorian Yates, Ronnie Cloeman, they all did/do deadlifts, give me your views on deadlifts?

I used to Deadlift but I can't anymore. When I did a deadlift my hamstring popped and I got jerked down. Now I have a bulging disc so no more for me.

Sorry to hear your bad experience bro.
Was it due to bad form an injury, or a freak accident ?

i think deadlifts should be done every other week during a back exercise to allow more recovery time for the lower back..lower back is suceptible for injury so i think deadlifting eow is the way to go..hey thats just my opinion... lols..

yah..thats what i felt before when i was used to do deadlifts everytime i train back. but doing so i destroyed my symmetry. right now im doing deadlifts eow..on the sessions that i dont do deadlifts, i compensate it with rows...yah bro..everyones unique...

I do deadlifts, barbell rows chins and low cable rows, thats my back workout and if i left out deds i would get paroniod that i was loseing size and strenght, the only way i would leave them out is if i was injured....... yeah everyones differnt!!!
I dont do Deadlifts or Squats anymore because my stomache is fucked up afterwards so i hardly can eat postworkout.
Now i do Goodmornings and hacklift instead and they are working great.

Ouch, your right what a twat.
i do think deadlifts are a must however trained once every 2 weeks is plenty.
They will thickin your lower back and increase size and strength of your back from hamstrings upto traps.

I swear by Deads, I do them once a week with back. My squat was never anything to feel great about, until I started doing Deads. The weakest part of the squat, is your lower back, coming up hips / ass first, due to a weak lower back. After deads my traps, back, hams, and shoulders are sore. Try alternating styles sumo and traditional style. If your lower back is bad, try pin deads, pin the weight bar higher off the ground to put less strain on your lower back. Keep the reps on the lower side (sets of 3-5reps), the more reps you do, the more tired you get, and your form goes out the window, and so does your back. Always use lbs you can handle. Good luck!!

Deadlifts are a must, but depending on what you're doing them for, there are many different ways to train them.

Deadlifts give the best thickness to your back. Its my favorite exercise so far and I do them every other week alternating them with barbell rows. On my barbell rows week I will do partial deadlifts too which has helped increase my strength.

I Do Deadlifts Every Other Week. I Go Heavy So I Don't Wanna Damage My Lower Back. I Always Do 5 Sets Of Wide Grip Chin-ups First Then 3 Reverse Grip Pulldowns Then Overhand Wide Grip Pulldowns. I Always Do Reverse Grip Pullups, Dumbell Rows, Cablerows. Always Rotate Your Workout Weekly And Change Back Day Workouts Because Your Body Gets Acustom To Your Workout.

I do squats and deads, however dont go over 200lbs...yes I can do more but why when more repetitions give you that more pumped look adn feel vs tryin to squat and dead lift a heavier weight and eventually need surgery and cant walk right when ur an old man!

Complete rubbish DEADLIFTS are the KING of all exercises. If you dont deadlift your a puss(unless you have back /disc problems. Im 47 and can still go to 585 every week for 3-5 and im still making my way to 700. I pulled 625 for a single about 8 weeks ago.If you dont deadlift start and watch your squat and bench go up too. Dont go past 200 where the hell did you hear this garbage from? My 16 yr old nephew can rep with 275 already
Go fukin heavy or go home
As soon as i can ill post something on youtube me pulling 600+ or 585 for some reps i really dont like posting my pic on the net but we will see

They're definitely the best mass builder, and definitely easy to injure yourself as well. That said, pullups are my fave.

Same here. I find different grips on the pullup bar is best for back.
I have been lately taking a v-bar and placing it over the top of the pullup bar, and i have been very happy with the new growth just in the past month alone

Today was an incredible day at PL meet witnessed 2 extraordinary individuals
1. A 19 yr. old kid with a disabilty who pulled a 325 deadlift which will give him the Illinois Special Olympics record @ his weight class
2.A blind guy who was 54 yrs. old put up 345 on the bench and pulled a 475 deadlift his wife had to walk him to the bench and dead platform on every attempt.
I was very proud/glad for theese 2 incredible guys today
On a MUCH LESSER note i won the 242# division i pulled a 585(masters 45-49)
i believe it was a rcord in Illinois
Next comp is in Dec. it will be all three lifts then

You are ssooooo strong. I am like, so impressed with you. I like the way you say go fucking heavy or go home. that is like soooo coool. Did you make that phrase up yourself. If so, you are like ssooooo creatively awesome.
Now that all my smart ass comments are out of the way. You probably should try to deadlift heavier, but again no lift is really essential and irreplaceable. It really depends what you are training for. If just training to stay in decent shape, there is zero reason to deadlift. If bodybuilding competitively though, it will be tough to match the overall thickness that deadlifting seems to impart with any other exercise. Comes down to what your priorities are. I stopped deadlifting because I was actually getting too thick from doing them and that is not the overall look I was going for, but they do work and they work fast. I went from deadlifting 135 when I started and about 1.5 year later I was deadlifting about 500lbs which at my height is pretty decent. My body responded real fast to deads.

I wish I could deadlift that much. I've been training for years but just started doing deads early this year.
I don't know how so may guys can lift so much weight cause I get dizzy as hell after each set of 225.
